Hello and welcome to my static home page. Here you will find links to my github code and links to other sites on the web that I use for development/personal things.
This entire page was written with Mou App which is an excellent Markdown editor for OS X.
The site is a bit basic but that’s ok with me since I am terrible at web design (and I mean really terrible) so something basic that isn’t too offensive works for me :).
I’m not big into partying as I’m quite introverted really, I don’t drink but I do smoke tobacco (a habit I’m trying to break). I used to try and be more extroverted in my teenage years but I am incompatible with that and it makes me pretty unhappy to lie about who I am. I get told a lot by people that I need to lie more about me so I can get a good job and have a ‘good life’. I’d rather be myself and struggle financially than have to succumb to that.
My main interests are code and music in no particular order. I am ‘into’ C based languages (C,C++,Objective-C) and languages that are interesting/useful like Python and Clojure.
I like computer hardware and I’m a bit of an Apple fan when it comes to my primary computers although I do keep around a Linux install for me to play with. I used to be very into games and the Windows world but that was a long time ago and whilst I still play the odd game (booting up my dekstop to do so) I’m a bit bored of it all really.
The languages I know well enough to feel competent in writing them are:
I could probably add Bash/Perl to that list but I don’t enjoy writing either (Bash is too frustrating and Perl is something I’ve never managed to find symbiosis with).
I have reasonable skill with GTK/Qt, although I’d err on the side of being better at using Qt since it makes more sense to me overall. I’ve completed 2 Google Summer of Codes, the first being an attempt at a Musical Score Editor for Jokosher (which is a project I have left to rot woefully) and improvements to a Bug Tracker Aggregator called Entomologist. I really enjoy spending some of my time writing a lot of code but I find it only works if I take a step back periodically. As with anything too much of a good thing can be very very bad :).
I can play guitar passably and I like to learn about things (genuinley). I spend hours reading about topics on the internet just so I can know more about stuff that may have only initially sounded slightly interesting but then suddenly after spending hours reading about it turns out to be very interesting.
I also like spending time with my girlfriend and listening to music and talking about interesting topics with people I know well enough to feel comfortable with.
